What's the difference between a Grocery Store and a Food Co-op?

A cooperative is a member-owned and member-controlled business that operates for the mutual benefit of all members (in this case, great local food and a healthy community).

What else makes Co-ops so awesome?

7 Cooperative Principles

Like all cooperatives, the Oshkosh Food Co-op will operate using seven internationally recognized principles to guide them. These are:

  2. Democratic member control
  3. Member economic participation
  4. Autonomy and independence
  5. Education, training and information
  6. Cooperation among cooperatives
  7. Concern for community
